Panama came to the city with aspirations of singer stardom; but, never rising any further than the lounge circuit, she changed focus after learning the ropes of the club business from Sam LaForest, the bartender at her most regular gig. While managing her first small bar in Chinatown, ‘Whitechapel’ Jack, then a rising lieutenant in the Pilazzo Family, chose her canteen to murder the last remaining rival blocking his path to full control of the mob. The young mob boss, impressed by Panama’s complete stonewalling of the ensuing police investigation, offers her the management job at The Paradise Lost Club: the headquarters of his newly christened Whitechapel Mob. She quickly installs Sam as the club’s bartender and her favorite talent, the drag queen vocalist Senju Liu, as its star performer.
